Dymension

Dymension (DYM)

Dymension is an innovative network of deployable and fast modular blockchains known as RollApps. Founded by Yishay Harel in 2022, it represents a new ecosystem designed to enhance blockchain technology.

Overview

Introduced in 2022, Dymension functions like a full-stack web application within its ecosystem. Users interact with RollApps, which serve as the interactive applications. The Dymension Hub coordinates the ecosystem, while data availability networks provide a platform for data publication. According to CEO Yishay Harel, Dymension aims to create a network of blockchains that could lead to significant advancements in the field, with Dymension Hub acting as the core of a new internet of value comprising numerous modular blockchains.

Dymension standardizes rollups using the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC), much like how ERC standards have been used for tokens. In February 2023, Dymension successfully raised $6.7 million in a seed funding round led by Big Brain Holdings and Stratos, with contributions from Matchbox DAO and others. The funding was secured through a simple agreement for future tokens (SAFT).

RollApps

RollApps are customizable web applications used to develop various projects, including games, DeFi, and NFTs. Each RollApp is an application-specific rollup, developed using the Dymension RollApp Development Kit (RDK). The RDK is a set of generic modules that simplify the deployment of RollApps on the Dymension Hub.

Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC)

RollApps interact with the IBC protocol, ensuring safe message transfer between Dymension RollApps. This communication relies on the common platform provided by the Dymension Hub.

RollApp Virtual Machine (RVM)

The RVM acts as a dispute-resolution mechanism, simulating a RollApp execution environment within the Dymension Hub. It ensures a deterministic output by processing transactions with the exact context provided.

Embedded Hub AMM

Dymension incorporates a native Automated Market Maker (AMM) within the Dymension Hub to facilitate shared liquidity and security. The AMM supports RollApp operations and serves as essential infrastructure.

The Dymension Hub

The Dymension Hub functions similarly to a server in a traditional web application, managing requests from RollApps and facilitating communication among them. It operates as a decentralized Delegated Proof-of-Stake blockchain using the DYM token, providing security, interoperability, and liquidity for the RollApps.

Data Availability Networks

Data availability networks in Dymension serve a similar role to databases in web applications, offering data as needed. These decentralized networks hold data for limited periods, contributing to the ecosystem's functionality.

DYM Genesis Drop

On January 2, 2023, Dymension announced the upcoming launch of its mainnet, introducing DYM as the native asset of the protocol. DYM plays a crucial role in ensuring security, promoting growth, and sustaining the ecosystem and its RollApps.

Genesis Airdrop

Eligible addresses can claim their airdrop until January 21, 2024, through a dedicated site. The Genesis Rolldrop marks the beginning of Rolldrop seasons, aiming to incentivize ecosystem users and builders. An allocation of 70,000,000 DYM, representing 7% of the total supply, will be distributed in this process.

Dymension Mainnet

On February 7, 2025, Dymension successfully launched its mainnet, marking a significant milestone. The initial phase, known as the Singularity Point, focuses on enhancing economic security and aggregating substantial liquidity and stake to support the first batch of rollups. This phase includes acquiring a sufficient delegated stake, establishing major IBCs, proposing governance proposals, and streaming incentives for staking and trading pairs. Future stages include the development of 2D Permissioned RollApps, 3D Permissionless RollApps, and the 4D Internet of RollApps.
