Cartesi

Cartesi (CTSI)

Cartesi (CTSI) is a layer-2 infrastructure designed to facilitate complex and intensive computations using a Linux environment outside the blockchain, while maintaining decentralization. The project seeks to enhance the power, ease of development, and portability of decentralized applications (DApps), bringing scalable and convenient solutions to developers and users.

Overview

Founded in 2018 by Erick de Moura, Augusto Teixeira, Diego Nehab, and Colin Steil, Cartesi emerged from a friendship between Augusto Teixeira and Serguei Popov, the founder of IOTA. Serguei became one of the project's early investors and advisors. Cartesi addresses the limitations of blockchain platforms that can deter developers and users by enabling them to utilize established software in a Linux environment. The project aims to connect the centralized and decentralized application development worlds with several key features:

Features of Cartesi

  • Scalability: Enables intensive computations on large datasets off-chain while maintaining blockchain-level security.
  • Programmability: Allows DApp logic to operate under Linux, offering a wide range of open-source software options.
  • Ease of Adoption: Developers can work in a familiar setting without limitations and have access to their preferred tools.
  • Decentralization: Ensures on-chain consensus without relying on a reputation protocol, trusted execution environments, or single-party-controlled servers.
  • Portability: Facilitates DApp portability across major public blockchains that support smart contracts.
  • Privacy: Supports private DApp states among application participants.

Cartesi aims to enhance the scalability and power of decentralized applications with its network of nodes. The CTSI token is designed to incentivize Cartesi Node operators to engage effectively and honestly with the system.
