Adventure Gold (AGLD)
Adventure Gold (AGLD) is an ERC-20 token that emerged from the innovative Loot non-fungible token (NFT) project. This project is notable for its unique approach to NFTs, focusing on decentralization and community-driven development. Created by Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann, Loot offers a collection of text-based randomized adventure gear stored on-chain, comprising 8,000 NFTs that are intentionally designed without a front-end interface, images, or predefined functionality. Instead, the project encourages community interpretation and expansion.

Origin and initial launch
Adventure Gold was launched on September 2, 2021, as part of the Loot project. It allowed each Loot NFT owner to claim 10,000 AGLD tokens for free. This airdrop quickly gained significant value, with each NFT’s allocation worth up to $70,000 in the early trading days. The creation of AGLD was driven by the vision of establishing a standard currency for the decentralized gaming universe associated with Loot.
The role of Adventure Gold in the Loot ecosystem
Adventure Gold functions as the ecosystem, governance, and gas token for Adventure Layer, which serves as a Layer 2 solution customized for Fully Onchain Games (FOCG). The Adventure Layer, an enhancement of the original Loot Chain, was launched in June 2023. This upgrade introduces advanced features such as sharding, tick-based parallel execution, and an Entity-Component-System (ECS) game engine, all designed to improve the gaming experience for both FOCG players and developers. Through these developments, AGLD supports the goal of creating a robust ecosystem for decentralized gaming.
Founder's vision and development
Will Papper, the founder of Adventure Gold, is also the co-founder of Syndicate DAO, a decentralized investing protocol. Papper is a Stanford University graduate and has been involved with cryptocurrency since the 2014 Ethereum pre-sale. Inspired by Vitalik Buterin's endorsement of Loot, Papper launched AGLD one day after Buterin's encouragement on Twitter. Remarkably, Papper wrote the majority of AGLD’s code in just four hours at a small airport in Oregon. As of September 6, 2021, Adventure Gold does not have an official development team beyond Papper.
