BONK is a meme-inspired cryptocurrency token developed on the Solana blockchain. It was first distributed to the Solana community as an airdrop on Christmas Day 2022. Featuring a Shiba Inu dog as its mascot, BONK draws inspiration from the meme coin Dogecoin (DOGE).

Overview

Launched during the 2022 Christmas season, BONK quickly captured the attention of the Solana community. It gained a significant user base of 400,000 holders, becoming one of the most widely distributed tokens on Solana. As a decentralized cryptocurrency, BONK leveraged meme culture and viral marketing to build a community of supporters and investors. It has attracted attention from major crypto publications like CoinDesk and mainstream media outlets such as Bloomberg.

BONK and Solana "Saga" phones

In December 2023, the demand for Solana's Saga phone increased due to the popularity of the BONK token. Sealed Saga phones were sold on platforms like eBay for up to $5,000, driven by arbitrage traders seeking a 30 million BONK token airdrop for each phone owner. This airdrop led to the Saga phone selling out quickly.

BONK ecosystem

The BONK ecosystem comprises BonkSwap, BonkDex, and BonkVault, each serving unique functions to enhance the utility of the $BONK token.

BONKSwap and BONKDex

Launched in April 2023, BONKSwap is an independently owned AMM DEX platform developed in collaboration with Hxro Network. It uses Gobi Labs AMM software and aims to be a key player in the DeFi infrastructure of the $BONK ecosystem. BONKSwap has achieved a Total Value Locked (TVL) exceeding $1 million, primarily in the BONK/USDC and BONK/SOL pairs, utilizing a "constant product" AMM model.

BONKSwap offers several features, including:

  1. Token Swap: Facilitates direct swaps among various liquidity pools.
  2. Liquidity: Allows users to provide liquidity with potential rewards in esBONK tokens.

BONKBot

BONKbot is a Telegram trading bot on Solana, serving as the official partner of the $BONK community. It allows users to execute trades efficiently by pasting a token address into Telegram, eliminating the need for wallet connections or transaction confirmations.

$BONK is the native token of the BONK ecosystem, with a capped supply of 1 billion tokens. Over 65% of the supply has been burned, permanently removing these tokens from circulation. This strategy encourages holding and promotes the value of the remaining BONK tokens.

The distribution of BONK tokens is as follows:

  • 21% for the 40 most active NFT projects on Solana.
  • 15.8% for active crypto traders and DeFi users.
  • 10.5% for artists and collectors of 1/1 art.
  • 5.3% for developers on Solana.
  • 21% for early contributors to the BONK project.
  • 15.8% for the BONK decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
  • 5.3% for liquidity distribution on DEX and DeFi protocols.
  • 5.3% for marketing promotions and incentives.

BONKmas

BONKmas marked the one-year milestone of BONK, celebrating loyal holders and highlighting partnerships within the Solana ecosystem. The event, held from December 12th to 23rd, 2023, rewarded supporters and categorized community members based on their engagement.

To be eligible for BONKmas rewards, individuals needed a linked Twitter profile, followed the BONK account, and held over 1 million $BONK as of a secret November 30th snapshot.

Partnerships

Paris Musketeers

On April 10th, 2024, BONK partnered with the Paris Musketeers, France's only professional American football team. This collaboration aimed to bridge sports with Web3, contributing to the global presence of American football. Through televised games, BONK sought to expand its reach across Europe and support the Musketeers in popularizing the sport in Paris.
