History of Ravencoin
Ravencoin was officially launched on January 3, 2018, by a group of core developers known by their online aliases: RavoncoinDev, Tron, and Chatturga. The project is open-source and does not have a centralized team. Bruce Fenton, a board member of The Bitcoin Foundation, serves as an advisor to the project. The launch was marked by a tweet from Fenton, which announced the commencement of mining activities.
The platform gained significant attention when Patrick Byrne, then CEO of Overstock, revealed that his company had made a substantial investment in the Ravencoin project. This endorsement brought Ravencoin into the spotlight and underscored its potential in the blockchain space.
How Ravencoin works
Asset creation and transfer
Ravencoin's primary function is the tokenization and transfer of assets. Users can create tokens that represent real-world assets, such as gold bars or land deeds, as well as digital assets like gaming items or software licenses. Each token can be customized with unique properties, allowing for a wide range of use cases.
Open-source development
The Ravencoin project thrives on its open-source nature, with contributions from a global community of developers. This decentralized approach ensures transparency and fosters innovation, as anyone can propose changes or improvements to the platform. The core development team, along with community members, continues to enhance the platform's features and capabilities.
Community and backing
Ravencoin boasts an active and engaged community, which plays a crucial role in its ongoing development and adoption. The backing of prominent figures in the cryptocurrency and online retail sectors, such as Bruce Fenton and Patrick Byrne, lends credibility and support to the project. This community-driven approach, coupled with strategic backing, positions Ravencoin as a promising player in the blockchain industry.
